Volunteer with Leeds Youth Justice Service

Become a volunteer with the Leeds Youth Justice Service and help prevent young people who have offended from getting into further trouble.

To become a volunteer you will need to:

  • be aged over 21
  • pass an enhanced DBS check (we will do this once you have completed training)
  • take part in training - between 4 and 6 sessions in the evening or on a Saturday
  • be able to commit to a minimum of 12 months service, volunteering every couple of weeks

Volunteer roles

Panel member

Panels aim to reduce reoffending by young people. As a panel member, you will meet with the young people, their parents or carers and sometimes their victims, to help the young person understand the impact of their crime and take responsibility for their actions.

It’s mainly for young people who have admitted guilt and been convicted of their first offence.

Mentor

In this role you will provide one to one guidance and support to young people, helping to improve their motivation and engagement.

How to apply

If you are interested in supporting children to develop a pro-social identity and have (or are keen to learn) the skills necessary to work with challenging behaviour, we would love to hear from you.

To become a volunteer, you will need to complete our online application form.

If you have any questions about any of our roles, please email the team at
leeds.yos.volunteer@leeds.gov.uk.

If there aren’t any current opportunities to become a volunteer, we’ll keep your details for 6 months and contact you if a role becomes available.
