Check what items we can take
Carpets and underlay
Carpets and underlay must be kept dry and, if possible, folded or rolled into manageable pieces for easier carrying.
Please separate the carpet from the underlay.
No loose pieces of carpet will be collected.
Doors
We can collect any internal or external doors, except for those made of UPVC.
Any glass panels must be removed and made safe by taping.
We will not collect garage doors
Electrical items
Loose doors or wires should be taped or tied to the item.
We will collect electrical items including:
- TVs
- microwaves
- lawn mowers
- sun beds (UV tubes removed)
- fridges and freezers (these must be smaller than 6 by 4 feet, with all food removed)
- cookers
- washing machines
- tumble dryers
- dish washers
Furniture
We will collect:
- chairs
- sofas
- tables
- dismantled wardrobes
- sideboards
- bed bases
- mattresses
All items must be dismantled prior to collection. Each part of the dismantled object will be classed as one item. For example, a bed will consist of 4 items - bed frame, slats, mattress and headboard. Make sure there are no nails sticking out.
Any drawers should be left intact.
Any items containing glass should have the glass removed, or if this is not possible, should have cardboard taped securely on either side.
Mirrors or items containing mirrors will not be collected, such as wardrobes with a mirror attached
Garden waste and wood
Garden waste
We will not collect garden waste if you have access to brown (garden waste) bin collections.
We will take up to 5 items or 4 bags of
garden waste that would normally go in a brown bin. Bags must be double bagged.
Wood and branches
Wood and branches must be bundled up into manageable amounts.
Please make sure that nails and screws are removed.
Each fence panel and each fence post will be classed as one item.
What we do not collect
- tree trunks
- broken up pallets
- broken up garden sheds
- fence panels larger than 2 meters by 1.3 metres
Items we do not collect
We cannot collect any items larger than 6 feet by 4 feet
- garden sheds
- bathroom suites including sinks, baths and toilets
- kitchen units including sinks, worktops and cupboards
- boilers, storage heaters and radiators
- building material including rubble
- car parts including batteries and tyres
- gas bottles
- hazardous materials such as chemicals, paint and asbestos
- glass items including mirrors, greenhouses, fish tanks and fluorescent lights
- pianos and organs
- hot tubs
- window frames and windows
- general household waste that would normally go into
your black or green bin

recycling centre apart from asbestos (make an appointment at
Kirkstall recycling centre) and gas bottles - find out how to dispose of them properly
